Wearing cultural clothes, participating in an exciting runway and running a stall at the fayre- how fun!
Cultural day, (now known as “We Are Newstead Day”) is an annual event and Newstead Wood School for Girls, held to celebrate the diverse cultures of its students. This year, it was celebrated on March 22nd.
Students were invited to attend school dressed up in their cultural clothes. Newstead Wood is an incredibly diverse school, with students of cultures from all over the world.
A Cultural Fayre was held at lunch, at which students could run their own stalls. The money earned would go to a charity of the students’ own choosing. There was a large variety of stalls ranging from food and sweets to jewellery and candles. All the food was very delicious and most items were at a decent price.
At lunch there was also a runway event in the main hall. Students could participate in this runway to show off their outfits and celebrate their cultures.
The students had the option to donate £1 to the British Red Cross upon entrance. The British Red Cross is a charity whose aim is to improve the lives of people in the UK and to help and support to individuals and families in crisis. They also support those in need of health or social care and provide first aid training.
The event brought a day full of fun and was enjoyed by many. Mauriya Senthilnathan, a year ten student at NWS said “I really enjoyed the various cultural stalls and the food they provided. It was an exciting insight into the diversity at Newstead Wood.”
