Having been profligate in front of goal for the first hour, Welling United scored twice from corners in the latter stages to ensure their continued participation in the F.A. Cup.

Changes were necessary at the back with injuries ruling out Jordon Brown and Sean Francis with Archie Johnson and Dean Leacock coming in.

It did not take long for Welling to create chances. Adam Coombes hit a free kick into the wall and it came back for his follow up to be deflected by Vernon Francis causing Luke Colquhoun to knock away with his legs.

Lyle Della-Verde sent in a corner that Rickie Hayles met with a diving header but his header went down onto the synthetic surface then ballooned over the bar.

Coombes then played a clever ball in to Della-Verde whose trickery gave him time to take aim only to see his measured shot come out off the inside of the post.

Sam Clayton fired a free kick into the Welling wall before belting the rebound well over.

Pierre Joseph-Dubois was the next to go close. He rounded Luke Colquhoun but, with defenders getting back, he could only fire across the face of goal with his first time effort.

Twice more, Coombes was thwarted by Colquhoun before he turned provider only for Della-Verde also to be kept out by a good save.

Ryan Fowler fired over from outside the area in a rare break from the hosts but Welling continued to create and miss chances.

Coombes, Danny Waldren and Della-Verde combined to create the next opportunity but Joseph-Dubois shot wide.

Then Mitchell Nelson crossed for Coombes but he couldn't head up from a low diving header.

Clayton fired well over and Andrew Mensah fired into the side netting but Welling had the last chance of the half when Coombes was crowded out by Colquhoun and two defenders in first half injury time.

Soon after the break, Coombes had a goal disallowed after good work by Johnson but the chances were fewer and further between until the deadlock was broken after 70 minutes.

Della-Verde slung in a low near post corner and Coombes scuffed home at the near post.

Another Della-Verde chance went wide and substitute Dan Walker had a shot saved as Welling created to trouble the hosts.

Owen Roberts was sent up as an extra striker but that didn't last long as he was dismissed for a wild tackle on Johnson.

On 90 minutes, the game was made safe when Hayles rose unopposed to head open another Della-Verde corner.

There was still time for Walker to shoot wide in injury time before the final whistle blew and Welling now await Monday's draw to see who they face in the third qualifying round.
