Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew was delighted to see some names return to the side for last night's EFL Cup win over League Two Blackpool - as well as one completely new name.
Goals from Connor Wickham and Scott Dann secured safe passage via a 2-0 win, which will come as good news to Palace fans, after seeing their side struggle in the opening two games of the Premier League season.
New club record signing Christian Benteke made his debut, but only played 45 minutes before being substituted by Wickham.
Dann opened the scoring for Palace after 25 minutes, their first goal of the season.
Wickham added a second two minutes into the second half to seal the win and put Palace’s season back on track.
Pardew told cpfc: “We were a great cup team last season in both cup competitions and we want to be again and the strength of the team I selected tonight showed that, so we are through with no injuries and a few good debuts.
"More importantly perhaps were some of our players from last season who have been missing; Cabaye and McArthur were outstanding in the middle of the pitch so I couldn’t have asked for anything more really from tonight.
"We’ve known in the first two games we have been missing players and it is nice to see them back and it has been a good night for us, we’ve come through it and we can set ourselves up now for the game at the weekend.”
