Charlton are yet to launch any kind of offer for experienced defender Jason Pearce, Wigan boss Gary Caldwell has confirmed.

Russell Slade is hoping to sign several players before the start of the new season with defensive reinforcements believed to be one of his target areas.

Wigan vice-captain Pearce has been on Charlton’s radar, but the club have not approached the Latics over a deal.

When asked whether Wigan had received an offer from the South Londoners, Caldwell told WiganToday: “Nothing as yet, no.

“The arrival of Jake [Buxton] has given me options that I need going forward. If anything changes, we’ll let you know.”

Pearce, 28, has made 42 league appearances for Wigan since signing from Leeds United but has been the subject of much speculation.

Meanwhile, Charlton winger Zakarya Bergdich is believed to have been offered a two-year contract by Ligue 2 side Lens.
