Stoke City chairman Peter Coates has reaffirmed the club’s interest in signing West Brom striker Saido Berahino.

Berahino, 22, is the subject of interest from several clubs – with Crystal Palace launching a bid for his signature earlier in the week.

But Stoke, who are believed to have previously made a verbal offer of around £16m for Berahino, remain determined to sign the former England U21 star.

“[Saido Berahino] is on our list. We would like to do something,” Coates told talkSPORT.

“We’re in the hands of the player and West Bromwich Albion at the minute and we’re working away on it.

“We would like to take him if a deal can be done.”

Coates, 78, added: “We are after that elusive striker everyone is looking for. Players like to see new faces and the club moving on.

“Although it might affect their position, they still want to feel you’re improving.”

Palace are keen to bolster their attacking options this summer after suffering a goal-shy end to the 2015/16 campaign.

While Berahino is a target, they are also the short favourites to sign Liverpool striker Christian Benteke and unsettled West Ham forward Diafra Sakho.
