Jorge Teixeira has been approached by multiple clubs regarding a summer move, the Charlton defender’s agent has revealed.

The Portuguese centre-back joined the Addicks from Standard Liege in January and impressed in the second-half of the season.

Despite strengthening then-boss Jose Riga’s defence – and popping up with two goals in three games against Middlesbrough and Birmingham – Charlton’s relegation to League One was confirmed in April.

Jordan Cousins, Johann Berg Gudmundsson, Stephen Henderson and Nick Pope have already left the club following relegation and Teixeira is another being tipped to depart the Valley.

But Teixeira’s agent insists the 29-year-old will remain in SE7 and fight for promotion unless a move suits all parties.

Nuno Rolo, president and CEO of RoloSports agency, told News Shopper: “Jorge signed a long-term contract with the club in January.

“He came from Standard Liege and performed well last season but could not save the club [from relegation].

“If it is good for the player and the club maybe we can make something happen.

“But if not he is ready to fight for a return to the Championship – he is a true professional.”

Rolo admits Charlton’s drop to the third tier of English football is undesirable, and that multiple clubs have expressed an interest in Teixeira.

He added: “It’s not the perfect scenario, obviously. If we can find something, okay, if not he will fight at Charlton – that much is certain.

“Some clubs make approaches but he respects his club and contract.

“We already have some approaches and a lot can happen before August 31 so we will see.”
