Yaya Sanogo says it is his “personal mission” to help Charlton stay in the Championship this season.

The Arsenal forward excelled on his full debut for the Addicks at the weekend, sealing a hat-trick despite Reading leaving the Valley with a 4-3 win.

The result leaves Charlton seven points from safety with 12 games remaining and Sanogo insists he is desperate to help the club avoid relegation.

He said: “I’m enjoying it [my time at Charlton] and it’s my personal mission to help Charlton stay [in the Championship].

“We try, every day I work hard in training. I’m fit and hopefully I can help Charlton stay in the league.”

Sanogo appeared to have earned the Addicks a point when his late goal capped off a fine hat-trick, but Reading scored an injury-time winner to condemn the hosts to a 19th league defeat.

The French striker, who joined Arsenal from French club Auxerre at the age of 20, was left with mixed feelings.

He said: “I’m happy [with my performance], but not really because we didn’t win.

“That is a big problem because we were fighting for a win today, we couldn’t do it but every week we work for the win and to stay in the league.”

Sanogo endured a barren period at Ajax before completing a loan move to Charlton until the end of the season.

The talisman only made three league appearances for the Dutch giants and says he is happy to be back playing in England.

The 23-year-old added: “English football is the best in the world – I’m enjoying it.

“When you go to games the atmosphere is unbelievable and the quality is good.”

At the weekend Charlton travel to Brentford, who are currently 14th in the table after losing four of their last five games.
