Charlton face an anxious wait over the fitness of Igor Vetokele ahead of their crucial Championship match against Cardiff on Saturday, News Shopper understands.

The Angolan striker, who has a history with injury problems, missed last week’s home defeat to Bristol City with a hamstring strain.

Charlton boss Jose Riga hoped the 23-year-old would be fit for the Cardiff fixture, saying: “Based on the last week’s result [4-1 win at Rotherham], he’s important to the team.

“Him and Simon [Makienok] complement each other.”

However, News Shopper understands that Vetokele has a 50-50 chance of playing against the Bluebirds at the Valley.

The club will wait to see how he holds up come the weekend, and would certainly expect the forward to feature against Fulham if he is ruled out this week.

Following the damaging defeat to Bristol City, Charlton are bottom of the Championship and four points adrift off safety.
