Charlton forward Igor Vetokele has made a surprising return to training after only recently undergoing groin surgery.

The 23-year-old has endured a frustration period with a reoccurring groin problem limiting him to only four Championship games for Charlton this season.

Vetokele underwent an operation only weeks ago but was seen on the Charlton training ground doing laps with a member of staff.

Caretaker boss Karel Fraeye revealed that the session was his first since surgery.

“Igor worked on the pitch for the first time today, I’m not saying he’ll be back next week but it’s looking good,” the Belgian caretaker boss said.

The Addicks, who have won their last two fixtures following a wretched run of form, will also be able to utilise Chris Solly in Saturday’s match against Ipswich after the defender recovered from a knock.

“Anyone who can be fit is fit,” Fraeye added.

“Solly is back fit, Ademola Lookman (who was brought off during the win at Birmingham) is fit but we need to be very careful not to burn the player and we will work with him.”
