Mark Goldberg hailed the efforts of his team after Bromley recorded a 2-1 away victory over local-rivals Welling United last night.

Bromley have been in a fine run in the National League, winning six consecutive matches going into the derby at Park View Road.

Welling, who had been victorious in their previous four outings, started brightly and took the lead after just four minutes when Michael Chambers rose well to head in Sam Corne’s corner.

Goldberg’s side fought back admirably however, and Ali Fuseini levelled the scoring midway through the first half with a thumping shot from 25 yards.

Jack Holland provided Bromley’s second-half winner and Goldberg insisted it was important for his team to respond following their 4-0 defeat to Tranmere.

“That was very important,” the Bromley boss said.

“I wasn’t able to travel to Tranmere as I was ill but I’ve watched the game back and I think it’s fair to say the score-line wasn’t a true reflection on the game.

“But it was important to go into the game against Welling with confidence despite the loss.

“We were determined to show that Tranmere was not a true reflection on our ability and I think we did that.

“We were hungry to show a good response, to show belief and confidence.”

Goldberg admitted his side made a poor start to the game, but was delighted with the comeback in front of a packed crowd.

He said: “It was a difficult start, we were sloppy and on edge.

“We told the players to relax and play their natural game but of course that’s not as easy as it sounds, especially in front of a good crowd.

“We got back in the game quickly – Louis Dennis had a great opportunity that was probably easier to score than miss.

“But after we equalised we believed that we could go on and win it, and that was pleasing.

“We deserved all three points and it was a very professional, resilient performance.

“It was an excellent response to Tranmere.

“Welling are a good, young side and I’ve known Loui [Fazakerley] for a while, I’m sure he’ll evolve into an established manager.”

The Ravens entertain Barrow on Saturday with Alex Wall ruled out after suffering an ankle injury against Welling, while Paul Rogers will remain sidelined.

Goldberg also revealed that Max Porter could return in the outing after a lengthy period out injured.
