Neil Harris is looking at the possibility of bolstering his squad with loan moves after suffering a double injury blow in the 5-3 defeat to Peterborough on Saturday.

Influential midfielder Jimmy Abdou hobbled off after just five minutes at the ABAX Stadium, while Ed Upson was replaced in the second half with a knock.

The severity of the injuries is currently unknown, but Lions boss Harris has suggested he may be forced to enter the loan market to strengthen his squad.

“We’ve certainly got that option,” Harris said.

“With injuries to two key midfield players we are looking at the possibility of strengthening the squad.

“After the game against Northampton we have a big 11-day break to assess where we are and reflect on the first chunk of games this season.

“It gives us a chance to look at who has impressed, who hasn't and evaluate what areas could do with strengthening.”

The injuries Millwall suffered capped off a hugely disappointing trip to Peterborough.

The hosts eased into a two-goal lead before headers from Byron Webster and Tony Craig saw the Lions draw level.

Millwall’s defensive fragility was then exposed, however, as Graham Westley’s men eventually sealed a comprehensive 5-3 victory.

And Harris, 38, was frustrated by his team’s defensive effort.

“There was improvisation and quality at times, definitely, and the desire to score goals was top drawer,” he said.

“But what I am really disappointed with is the defending for five goals.

“The shot for the first goal could've gone anywhere and there was one great strike, but in general - and I'm not talking about my goalkeeper - five goals as a team is not good enough.

“The difference was in and around the penalty area, even for the chances we created, they were a little more clinical than us.”
