Charlton head coach Guy Luzon was left frustrated after seeing his side succumb to their first defeat of the season at Wolves this afternoon.

Johann Gudmundsson gave the Addicks the lead just before the hour mark, but goals from David Edwards and substitute Adam Le Fondre meant it was Kenny Jackett’s side who chalked up their second victory of the campaign.

Luzon insisted having taken the lead in the contest, and played well in large spells, the visitors were unfortunate not to bring anything back to London.

He said: “I’m very disappointed with the result because our play and the quality was good, especially in the second half.

“We scored one and then had a chance to add another soon after to finish the game.

“We arrived here with a lot of confidence and played very well with the ball, and we were organised in defence too, so I don’t think we deserve to leave here empty handed today.

“But we can continue positively in this way and we’ll still get good results.”

A tactical change at the interval saw Karlan Ahearne-Grant withdrawn, with El Hadji-Ba replacing the young forward.

As a result, Gudmundsson moved forward to partner Igor Vetokele in attack - and it was a change that reaped rewards early in the second half.

The boss explained: “We changed the tactics at half time and we performed a lot better after the break.

“We created chances, switched options on the ball and broke them down.

“It worked well and we responded positively after the changes.”

Luzon added: “To concede twice from crosses is disappointing because usually we block them better than we did this afternoon.

“We need to be more organised there but that’s part of the game. We can work on that, though.

“Generally I’m happy with our performance today.”

The first half saw Simon Makienok replaced due to injury, as the Danish striker left the field to become yet another Addicks casualty in recent weeks.

But with this the final game before the international break, Luzon hopes he will have some of his walking wounded back by the time Charlton resume their Championship campaign in a fortnight.

The manager said: “I hope Simon’s injury is not too serious because recently we have had some injuries.

“I hope in two weeks we’ll have everyone back – the break has come at the right time for us.”

With three days until the end of the transfer window, the head coach would not be drawn on whether a swoop for Wolves’ James Henry was any closer, despite the winger playing an influential role in his side’s win.

“I really don’t know about the deal, he is still their player so we will see.”
