Charlton striker Igor Vetokele declared his delight after making a scoring return in last night’s 4-1 League Cup success at Peterborough.

The Angola international came off the bench with just over half an hour remaining and finished impeccably with three minutes left on the clock to complete Charlton’s four-goal tally.

Mikhail Kennedy had given Charlton an early lead and the advantage was doubled after the break when Karlan Ahearne-Grant added a second from the penalty spot.

Substitute Ahmed Kashi then outrageously struck from 45-yards before Vetokele scored.

Despite a late consolation goal from Jermaine Anderson for the hosts, the Addicks eased through and will face Crystal Palace in the next round.

But for Vetokele the main priority now is just to enjoy an injury-free campaign.

“It was a very good feeling to be back on the pitch,” said the 23-year-old.

“I had a lot of problems with my injuries over the summer, so I had to work very hard to come back.

“I came back from my Achilles injury and I had a small inflammation on my groin, but it’s almost gone now.

“I’m feeling ready now to play games again and hopefully not get another injury.”

Charlton are unbeaten in all competitions so far and Vetokele admitted he has been impressed with the start to the season.

He said: “They’ve played very well as a team and everybody has been sticking to their tasks.

“It’s very good to see but of course, I’d rather be playing.

“It’s too early to say what we can achieve, but if we can continue like this we can do something very good this season.”

Guy Luzon’s side currently sit third in the table ahead of Saturday’s trip to Molineux, with Vetokele desperate to be involved after his unwanted spell on the sidelines.

“I’m very eager to play this weekend against Wolves,” said the former Copenhagen forward.

“But we need to take it calm and not speed the injury up fast.”

"I’m now going to speak about the minutes that I can play with the medical team.”
