Guy Luzon branded today’s 1-0 defeat at Birmingham as the worst display since he took over as Charlton head coach.

The first half was largely forgettable aside from Stephen Henderson tipping Robert Tesche’s early attempt on to the bar and Darren Randolph somehow keeping out Tony Watt’s goal-bound effort.

David Cotterill’s curler shaved the post just before the hour while Randolph reacted well moments later to deny Igor Vetokele.

But it took until the 82nd minute of a fairly dreadful encounter for the deadlock to be broken when substitute Lloyd Dyer’s angled drive from inside the area ensured man of the match Henderson was finally beaten.

Luzon admitted: “I’m really disappointed with the performance today.

“It was a really poor performance. Sometimes you can lose the game but the way that we lose I don’t like the way we played.

“We played without passion. We didn’t move the ball in the opponent’s half and if over 90 minutes we didn’t have the quality on the ball, we deserved to lose.”

He added: “I think yes it is the worst performance since I’ve been here. I’m really disappointed and frustrated because our target is to play positive every game.

“I really don’t like this kind of performance but we have next week the last game against Bournemouth.

“We have to improve and to play better because in football it is not only the result it is the way that you play and I’m very disappointed.”
