Neil Harris admits he has a dilemma over whether to start Magaye Gueye in tomorrow’s must-win game against Derby.

The 24-year-old has made a massive impact as a substitute since Harris assumed control, coming off the bench to score vital goals against Charlton and Wigan.

Gueye was named in the starting XI for Tuesday’s 2-0 defeat at Blackburn, playing just over an hour before being replaced by Paris Cowan-Hall with the game still scoreless.

Millwall’s boss is fully aware of the havoc the French winger can cause tiring full-backs when he comes on late and now has to decide if that is the best role for Gueye when the Rams visit The Den.

Harris said: “Magaye did well at Blackburn.

“He has been used as an impact sub under myself but also previously so we are delighted to get 60 minutes out of him, although he has just got a little bit tired.

“It is food for thought for me whether he can get more minutes on Saturday or whether he is an impact player – we will have to wait and see how we go.

“He has certainly done really well and been very effective for us, especially in home games.”

Harris also decided to hand Ricardo Fuller a start at Blackburn having previously stuck with the less experienced Lee Gregory and Aiden O’Brien up top.

Fuller made way for Gregory at the same time Gueye came off, and there was also a late cameo for Gary Taylor-Fletcher, another forward who has been more involved as a substitute in recent games.

The interim manager is only too happy to have that blend of youthfulness and experience at  his disposal, although he is looking for a change of fortune in front of goal tomorrow after a host of chances were squandered at Cardiff and Blackburn.

Harris said: “We’ve just got to keep working at what we are doing.

“The strikers we have are with us for a reason because they are good players and they’ve got pedigree to score goals, whether that is the young lads in U18 to U21 football or the senior players at previous clubs.

“It has just not quite happened for us in the last two games in front of goal.

“We’ve got goals against Wigan, Brentford and Charlton so as a team we are capable of scoring.

“At the moment we are playing very well just without that clinical touch.

“We will just keep doing what we are doing and hope that Saturday is different to Tuesday night.”

Harris added: “The experience of Ricardo Fuller, Gary Taylor-Fletcher and Stefan Maierhofer complements the youthfulness because you need to have a mix.

“It is just about picking a team and a strike force I feel is capable of affecting the opposition, as well as the subs who can impact the game when they come on.

“The other night at Blackburn we went with Ricky and Aiden.

“They are a really good pair who linked the play well.

“Unfortunately the chances didn’t fall for Ricky because we all know he is a composed finisher.

“Lee and Gaz came on and both made an impact again without the end product.

“We’ve got the players there that are playing well, it is not just the strikers but the whole team.”

* It was confirmed this lunchtime Rotherham United have been deducted three points for fielding an ineligible player on Easter Monday, a decision which leaves the Millers just one point above the Lions but with a game in hand.
