Defeat at Nuneaton Town left Welling United in a perilous position just above the relegation zone.

Anthony Jeffrey returned from suspension and Barney Williams from injury whilst Sam Berry, on loan from Sheffield United, made his debut.

Early on, Jamal Fyfield had a shot blocked then Dominic Vose fired a half volley wide.

Elliott Wheeler struck a long shot for Nuneaton that Jonathan Healy had to tip over.

Henly was in action again when saving from George Maris before getting up quickly to smother any follow up.

Max Crocombe, Borough's goalkeeper, became a virtual sweeper as Welling's attacks were limited to long balls forward looking to send Jason Williams away.

James Armson fired well wide on the half volley and Gus Mafuta sliced an effort well off target to sum up a poor first half.

Early in the second half, Welling were hit on the break after Darren Purse had a shot saved. Crocombe's quick release allowed Nuneaton to outnumber Welling down the right wing and, although the Wings retreating defence made a couple of good blocks, Adam Walker was on hand to slot home.

Jeffrey broke down the wing and cut in before his shot was charged out at the near post by Crocombe.

Karl Duguid had a shot deflected into the side netting but that turned out to be his final involvement before being replaced by Zach Fagan.

Andrew Brown fired wide for the hosts as Welling started to run out of ideas.

Sam Akinde was brought on for his Welling debut but to no avail.

Brown could have finished the game off but headed weakly at Henly.

Goalkeeper Henly came up for two corners and a free kick in injury time but his hopes of pinching something for Welling ended when Fyfield's delivery sailed harmlessly over.

Welling United: Henly, Williams, Fyfield, Duguid (Fagan 62), Purse, Berry, Jeffery, Vose (Akinde 70), J. Williams, Harris, Healy. Unused substitutes: Bush, Young, Carmichael.
