Guy Luzon doesn’t sound like he will be rushing Alou Diarra into the starting XI after an impressive cameo from the bench in Tuesday’s 2-0 defeat at Derby.

The former French international midfielder only signed for the Addicks on Monday after winning a contract until the end of the season.

Diarra came on to replace Lawrie Wilson the next evening, but the SE7 head coach was reluctant to say whether he had done enough to start in this weekend’s Valley encounter with Huddersfield.

“I’m not sure,” the Israeli replied.

“He didn’t play for a long time and he is not in good shape but I’m sure he will help us in the other games.

“He will come to it (full fitness) like Roger Johnson is because he is a professional, he is good value and I’m sure he will be OK.

“We will see. We know that he doesn’t have the power now and the shape for 90 minutes but he will take part in the game.”

Even if he doesn’t start this weekend, Luzon is convinced the 33-year-old is a good addition.

“I think he will bring us experience because we are mainly a young team,” the boss said.

“He will bring us quality and his character. He is a good player and I’m sure that he will help us.

“I think he played very well when he came on at Derby.

“It was the first time in a long time without a game and he played well and helped us make a difference and tried to move the ball.

“For a first appearance he was good.”

Chris Eagles is another new signing who has so far been named among the substitutes and Luzon was asked could he be set for a first start on Saturday.

“Who knows? It depends on what I want to achieve in the game whether he plays.

“If I think Chris Eagles needs to start the game, he will start the game but also he is not ready for 90 minutes.”

Jordan Cousins is expected to return against the Terriers after missing the midweek trip to Derby, while Rhoys Wiggins and Johnnie Jackson remain unavailable through injury.

The Valley will be packed out with 25,000 tickets already sold as part of the Football for a Fiver initiative.

And Luzon is keen to make the most of playing in front of an almost capacity crowd.

“It is fantastic because the stadium will be full,” he said.

“We need the support from the fans from the first minute and I can promise that we will show everything and give everything that the fans will be happy.

“The game is also important for our situation in the table.

“After the defeat against Derby we want to come back and take the three points and get a good result.”

Saturday will also see Chris Powell’s first return to the ground since his controversial dismissal almost a year ago, although Luzon admitted he didn’t know too much about one of his predecessors.

He said: “I know that he worked at the club and did well.

“I don’t know him personally and will meet him for the first time on Saturday.”
