This week marks 20 years since Eric Cantona infamously kung-fu kicked a Crystal Palace fan at Selhurst Park - still regarded as one of football's most extraordinary moments.

On January 25 1995, defending champions Manchester United visited south London just two points behind Premier League leaders Blackburn Rovers - a win would have put them top.

48 minutes in, a petulant kick at Palace centre back Richard Shaw resulted in Cantona being sent off.

As he was escorted off the pitch, Palace fan Matthew Simmons is alleged to shouted "f*** off back to France" and rest, as they say, is history.

The game ended 1-1.

Cantona faced assault charges and was initially jailed for two weeks at East Croydon Magistrates' Court.

However an appeal at Croydon Crown Court saw his sentence reduced to 120 hours of community service.

Another iconic moment followed in the flamboyant Frenchman's resulting press conference.
