Bob Peeters revealed his frustration at Charlton again conceding the lead after Blackpool’s late equaliser in the 2-2 draw at The Valley.

The home side took a 55th-minute lead through Jordan Cousins’ curled finish after Yoni Buyens’ first-half penalty had cancelled out Chris Eagles’ opening goal.

They wasted further chances to take the lead before Blackpool striker Steve Davies, capitalising on an error from goalkeeper Nick Pope – possibly his second of the afternoon – headed his side’s 89th-minute equaliser to deny Charlton a first win in four.

“Again, we played well after 1-1, I think we controlled the game and deserved to lead 2-1, we controlled the game,” Peeters said.

“We think maybe the players could have done better pushing for 3-1.

“But I don’t think except for one shot blocked in the second half they created any chances. And then you concede two goals at set pieces – that’s something you can’t do a lot about.

“Players make mistakes and if your goalkeeper makes mistakes it’s a goal, but he’s a young kid and he will learn from it but at this moment it’s frustrating because we deserved the three points, like against Ipswich.

“It’s already the eighth time we gave away a lead. That’s frustrating but you can’t do anything about it.”

After Blackpool’s second, Charlton created more chances to secure victory – the best of which was wasted by defender Andre Bikey from immediately in front of goal – leading Peeters, who has already spoken of his desire to recruit a striker in January, to insist his side’s inability to finish has become their biggest problem.

“If you keep possession and don’t lose the ball there’s no problem. We didn’t give anything away except for a tackle nearly in the middle of the park. They put the ball in and then head it in. That’s what can happen every time.

“A few minutes later we got the best chance of the game with Andre Bikey but that sums up our season at the moment that we can’t put away those balls.

“If you score that one the game’s finished again.

“I can’t hold it against my team because they work hard in training and on the pitch.

“We always want to score goals and want to play. Players making decisions at certain stages of the game…

“I didn’t talk to him (Pope) at this moment because he was too down. That cost us two points today but that happens and we need to give him the confidence to continue and try to play good games again.

“We played good football, we create chances, the only thing we forget to do at the moment is win games. We’ve had far worse games where we’ve won.

“We need to go on and try to get victory as soon as possible.

“We started (the season) pretty well and then people (the fans) get expectations but we need to be realistic as well.

“We have a young squad and maybe when we are leading sometimes we get nervous also because the crowd wants us to finish.

“At this moment we don’t need to look for the (Championship’s) top six, the first thing we need to do is get the win.”
