Bob Peeters has revealed the inspiration for converting Callum Harriott from a winger into a forward.

Partnering Igor Vetokele, Harriott scored Charlton’s goal in the 1-1 draw at Nottingham Forest a week after impressing against Ipswich Town.

Peeters remains in the market for a new striker but in Harriott he believes he has an improving option.

“I think he’s getting where we want him,” Peeters said.

“Before he was a bit reckless sometimes and he made it too difficult for himself.

“We’ve been managing him for a few months and since we’ve seen him progress in training we said, ‘Okay, now you’re going to get your chance up front’ and he’s doing alright but everyone can still progress, not only Callum Harriott.

“He has pace and he has ability, a very high work-rate.

“Sometimes he’s a little bit careless on the ball but that’s getting better as well, his first touch is getting better and now he starts to score goals as well so I’m happy with the way he’s progressing.”

Charlton, along with Millwall, had been linked with Arsenal’s Chuba Akpom.

Unlike their rivals’ manager Ian Holloway, however, Peeters was adamant he had no prior knowledge of the young striker.

“I’ve never heard of him to be honest,” he said.
