Addicks head coach Bob Peeters was pleased with the fight shown in the second half of last night's 3-0 defeat at Fulham.

Charlton fell behind early on as Chris Solly’s pass was intercepted by Scott Parker, who’s ball to Ross McCormack was returned with interest to the ex-Addick who finished from six yards.

It went from bad to worse for Peeters after 12 minutes when Hugo Rodallega added a second from close range after Stephen Henderson saved well from McCormack.

But it was a spirited display from the visitors in the second half, who put the Cottagers under all sorts of pressure, only for Rodallega to added his second, and Fulham’s third, on the break late on to seal the three points.

Despite the result, Peeters was at least pleased his side were able to make a fist of getting back into the game after such a poor start.

“I’m very proud of the second half, where we gave the right response,” he said.

“The fans as well, in the second half they saw Charlton fighting and dominating the game but the only thing you need to do is score a goal.

“We changed the system a bit because Scott Parker first half was having the time of his life.

“Second half we put pressure on him and I think they lost a lot of their quality.

"But then again, it's about scoring a goal and we did everything but score a goal.”

The Belgian admitted Charlton had been masters of their own downfall after conceding two sloppy opening goals in the early exchanges.

He explained: “Normally that's a strong point.

“Normally Chris Solly is the most solid player and never gives the ball away, but he got punished.

"They played it very well and we’re out of possession and you think OK guys, hold on we’re going to start building again, it’s only one goal.

“And then Morgan Fox, that's a bit of experience he lacks, he played the ball in the centre and they scored the second goal.

“That's what top football is about - when you play good opponents and give two chances away, they score two goals.”
