Millwall midfielder Ed Upson believes his performance in Saturday’s draw with Nottingham Forest was his best yet in a Lions shirt.

The 24-year-old came off the substitutes bench after five minutes when defender Carlos Edwards was stretched off with a suspected knee injury.

Upson combined well with Shaun Williams throughout the game to help the Lions dominate the middle of the park, and the former Yeovil man believes it is largely down to their friendship.

And Upson also feels his side put on a battling display and has his mind set on featuring more prominently in the midfield alongside Williams.

“It was my best game,” Upson said. “It was unexpected as well.

“It’s a shame Carlos got injured for that to happen but, I’ll take it as it comes and I really enjoyed it.

“I thought it was a good team performance against a team pushing for promotion and who are top of the league, it was a good display.

“I linked up well with Williams, he’s a friend of mine and last year, we played in there together also.

“It’s nice to rekindle that partnership. Hopefully we can play in there together a few more times.

“I really enjoyed playing with him and, I hope the feeling is mutual.”

The goalless draw with the league leaders was the first time this season Forest had failed to score and Upson believes Millwall were unlucky not to take all three points.

“They defended well but we had the better chances,” Upson said.

“Ranegie was unlucky with his shot, it was a point black block and I don't think the keeper knew much about it, it was just pure luck.

“From where I was it seemed like it seemed like it ricocheted, which was unlucky and Woolford had a chance too.

“I had about 15 shots and one of them will go in soon!

“I think Forest showed us a bit of respect, from the way that we were playing, they were worried about what we were going to do.

“It’s nice when teams like that worry about us rather than themselves.

“We started off the game with one sitting and two ahead and as the game changed, we were under instructions to have two sitting and for me to sit next to Williams.

“I’d class myself as an attacking midfielder but I can do that side of the age if I need to. It’s not really a problem, I like to get forward and i can get back if I need to.”

Millwall currently sit 13th in the league with 11 points, and Upson has revealed the mood within the squad is positive despite three games without a win.

The Lions head to struggling Huddersfield on Saturday looking to get back to winning ways after the stalemate with Forest.

“We’ve got some good points on the board against some good teams and the feeling in the camp is really positive,” Upson added.

“The gaffer tries to instil really positive vibes within the group, that’s something we’ll carry through.

“It will help us through the games, and off the pitch too, we’re getting closer as a group.

“It’s been a good start, there’s been ups and downs already as with any season but I think we can look at it in a positive way.

‘Wherever we go, we’re always looking to win, no matter whether it is Forest, QPR or Fulham.

“Huddersfield have their own merits, they do some things well and sometimes you can be in a false position this early on in the season.

“We will take it as it comes and prepare all week for them and we’ll be pushing for the win.”
