Dartford manager Tony Burman believes his side have finally got their reward for some impressive performances this season after picking up their first win.

Two goals in 12 second half minutes from Luke Daley and Andy Pugh overturned Telford’s half-time lead to hand the three points to the Princes Park outfit.

After the win, Burman praised his players’ resilience after going a goal down and on the back of a tough 4-0 defeat away to Barnet on Bank Holiday Monday.

He said: “In the first half I did not think we were doing enough to win the game.

“We came out in the second half, after being 1-0 down, and the players have shown their true character and I am pleased that they have got their just rewards.

“They have been unfortunate not to win a couple of the games previously and I think things went for us on Saturday and we scored two good goals.”

After picking up their first three points at home, Burman believes his team’s form at Princes Park is where it really matters.

The boss said: “We had not won any games and we obviously needed to do it as soon as possible.

“It was a home game and we need to try and win all of our home games and it was pleasing that we got the first win under our belts.

“You have got to make the most of playing at home, that is for sure.

“Anything you get away from home is a bonus.”

Despite the win, Burman does not feel the mood has changed much around the club and will make sure his players do not get too carried away.

He said: “I do not think there is much change, it is just nice that you get the win.

“Everyone likes to win games and it gives you a little bit of a buzz and a better feeling.

“The guys, although they had not won, they drew a couple of games that I felt they could have won.

“That’s football, it happens.

“You don’t get too excited when you’re winning and you don’t get too down when you’re losing.”

Dartford face another newly-promoted side in the shape of Altrincham on Saturday, but Burman is not taking anything for granted and knows it will be another tough test for his players.

He said: “Altrincham are obviously new to the league but every game in this league is difficult and playing away from home after a four hour trip up to the Manchester area is going to be tough for the guys.

“We now have a week to prepare for that game and hopefully we can get something from it.”
