Scott McDonald was frustrated with Millwall’s stalemate against ten-man Doncaster on Monday - but pointed out teams can often be galvanised by a sending off.

Millwall began the better of the two sides but failed to take advantage of Abdoulaye Meite’s fiercely disputed 42nd minute red card as the game finished 0-0.

Steve Morison forced a remarkable save from Doncaster keeper Sam Johnstone but the Lions couldn’t find the breakthrough, leaving them just a point above the relegation zone with two games remaining.

McDonald said: “We are all really frustrated.

“Playing against ten men for two thirds of the game everyone expects to win. “But that is probably a hoodoo because it is a lot harder to play against ten men when they just bank in and make it difficult to break them down.

“I thought we were playing decent stuff before the sending off and looking quite dangerous when breaking them down.

“But after he got sent off we sort of took our foot of the gas and they dropped very deep.”

McDonald added: “It wasn’t until the last 15 minutes we started to go a bit more direct but we just couldn’t get anyone on the end of the ball in the box.

“The manager is frustrated with a few things - we didn’t do to create more chances to actually win the game and take us further afield from others around us.”

Millwall have not won at The Den since January but Monday’s draw means they are now six games unbeaten.

Ian Holloway’s side, who sit 11th in the Championship form table, travel to QPR on Saturday before the last game of the season against Bournemouth at home on May 3.

“No matter what there was going to be work to do and we carry on now,” added McDonald.

“We look to QPR now and we have been enjoying our away games, perhaps because of the surface more than anything, and I’m sure Loftus Road’s ground is going to be nice.

“It will be a great occasion.

“There will be a great crowd behind us and it’s a London derby as well so it’s all to play for.”
