MILLWALL has pledged to match fans’ donations for the Save Lewisham Hospital Campaign pound for pound.

The club aims to drum up £10,000 of the £20k cost for the judicial review into the proposed downgrading of Lewisham Hospital’s maternity and A&E services.

The review was launched to challenge Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt’s decision on the grounds that the TSA’s powers over SLHT did not extend to Lewisham.

Dr Louise Irvine, Lewisham GP and chair of Save Lewisham Hospital Campaign said: “This [judicial review] is our chance to challenge the unjust decision that could see Lewisham losing its vital, popular, successful and solvent local hospital.

“Whilst we hope to win our case, we need to raise £20,000 to cover our costs should we lose.

"Please give generously to our legal fund. If we win, the money raised will be donated to the hospital and other local charities."

The Lions team has been a strong supporter of Save Lewisham Hospital Campaign and frequently worn campaign kit before high-profile matches.

Millwall CEO Andy Ambler said: “We are really hopeful that the judicial review will result in the key services at Lewisham Hospital which are under threat, being saved.

"We are happy to continue to play our part in supporting the Save Lewisham Hospital campaign.”

The judicial review will be heard in the High Court from July 2 to July 4 at the same time as Lewisham Council's separate legal challenge.
