Olympic gold medallist Alex Yee has posed with the mural in Brockley which was modified to celebrate his Tokyo win.

The 23-year-old posted the picture to his 60,000 Instagram followers with the caption "Brockley boy" partnered with a red heart emoji.

His picture received thousands of likes and more than 100 comments of support.

Lionel Stanhope, known for area signs which appear above or below railway bridges across south east London, transformed Brockley’s O into a gold medal to mark Yee’s achievement.

Taking to Twitter, Yee wrote: “Beyond proud. This is my home.”

The Brockley triathlete bagged a gold medal as Great Britain triumphed in the inaugural triathlon mixed relay and a silver medal in his Olympic debut in the individual event.

Born in Lewisham, Yee is the fastest pure runner in the history of triathlon but over the past couple of years he has proved himself capable of living with the best on the swim and bike as well, making him a formidable competitor.
