NEWS Shopper has been overwhelmed by readers' support for our Justice for Paul campaign with pledges flooding in by the bagful.

Orpington MP John Horam is also backing our call for a full investigation into the death of two-year-old Paul Gallagher on an island in the Bahamas.

Baby Paul was fatally injured when an unmanned speedboat mounted a beach at the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island in 2002.

Nearly four years on there has been no prosecution over his death and the same boat firm continues to operate at the resort.

Mr Horam and the family have met with the Foreign Office several times, which is liaising with the Bahamian authorities.

Negotiations have since resulted in an invitation to the Metropolitan Police to investigate the tragedy.

Mr Horam said: "The Bahamian authorities are saying the Met can only look at existing paperwork, which we know is minimal.

"It is simply unacceptable.

"What I think will work here is pressure and this is why I am backing News Shopper's campaign."

He added: "The worrying thing is this boat firm is still operating and nothing has been done.

"It is as if the Bahamian authorities are sticking two fingers up at the world."

Paul Gallagher, 41, of Repton Road, Orpington, said: "We are delighted Mr Horam has joined the campaign for Justice for Paul."

Andrea Gallagher, 38, said: "This campaign will hopefully lead to manslaughter charges being made against those responsible with them being made accountable for the death of my son.

"They should face 20 years in prison, a life sentence, just the same as we face without little Paul."

She added: "We would like to thank everybody who has signed the petition from the bottom of our hearts.

"This gives the family much encouragement to continue in our battle for justice for Paul.

"Justice is all we are asking for."
