Kingston's kultural katastrophe!
Excuse the spelling but it needs something desperate to draw the attention of Kingstonians to what is about to happen to our ancient records as set out in the Comet by June Sampson.
Tony Leitch in his letter last week suggests that rather than paying rent for a basement in County Hall (I understand the county council does not now intend to move), the records should go into "lightly used" space in the North Kingston Centre.
Much as I appreciate that this could well be the solution in the longer term, I am afraid that it could be the case of the best being the enemy of the good.
The important thing is to ACT NOW and use the whatever space is available in County Hall to at least keep these precious records in Kingston pending further discussions for permanent care as I suspect that once they have left the borough we will never get them back!
