This season is all about looking ultra chic. Jed Hamill of Graham Webb International guides us through winter's hottest hairdos.

If you want a simple beauty look that will work with any trend, opt for one of the simplest of hair looks around – a good old centre parting.

Wear your hair styled straight for a classic 1970s vibe, think Ali McGraw in Love Story and don't go poker straight, make sure you keep some body in the ends.

If boho luxe is more your thing, try blow-dried waves for an easy-to-wear more casual style.

For party time, if you want to make your frock the centre of attention, try slicking your hair back into a tight updo, but if you are going for a simple LBD and you want to make ‘you’ the centre of attention, try a sleek parting at the root with crazy crimped ends, either down or in an up-do - it’s sure to be a talking point!

However you wear a middle parting though, keep it simple and somewhat dishevelled to ensure it looks über modern and bang up-to-date.

Talking of up-dos, the modern version looks nothing like its prissy ancestor.

It is totally effortless, like you just threw it together and can even feel edgy, so it could work at Glastonbury as well as at your office party.

A cool, unstructured up-do is a fab way to offset a sharp, chic ladylike outfit.

At the moment, hair is all about adding texture and this is a really modern way of updating your look. If you can’t bring yourself to dust off your crimping irons (yes I was really serious!) because it’s just too harsh and too retro, have a go at tonging your hair with some narrow barreled tongs, remembering to protect your locks with a heat protector like smooth flatter iron spray from Clynol’s Style range and finish by brushing it all out for a softer effect.

Another way to make your hair stand out is by adding an accessory.

Feathers, bows and scarves are the quickest way to make a statement. Designer Luella Bartley’s cute bow clips and hair bands are gorgeous, but you don’t need a designer budget to nail this look - Accessorize’s feather band has been featured is just about every glossy magazine in print!

It can jazz up jeans and a top and be the icing on the cake of a winter wedding outfit, but best of all, it can detract from a botched tonging incident or a bad blow-dry or even cover up hair that you didn’t have time to wash!
