There was once a time when the letters CC meant only Coco Chanel, she who reigned supreme in the world of Paris fashion, but ask any teenager or indeed any young woman in the UK today who is the current queen of fashion and their answer will undoubtedly be the style magazines' new girl-crush Cheryl Cole.

From girlband wannabe, via a rather unsavoury incident in a nightclub toilet, la Cole has reinvented herself as the undisputed heavyweight of style, and she knows how to work it baby.

Not that she was ever an ugly duckling, she is certainly now gracing our screens with her swan-like presence and everyone has fallen in love (well, possibly not Dannii, definitely not Louis, but if Simon gets any closer he’ll be sitting on her knee).

As accusations about her marriage rocked the red tops, Cheryl came out fighting in the way of any modern-day people’s princess - leading with her wardrobe.

Before Ashley-gate, Cheryl was simply another WAG and one of the chicks in Girls Aloud, but once the story broke and she had done her hiding away, she came out of her cocoon with a ‘right back atcha’ attitude and a blazing beauty that we hadn’t really noticed before.

On The X Factor, she is perfect - gorgeous, sympathetic, knowledgeable, cute and funny and she takes no nonsense from Simon, which is always attractive.

As she is growing in stature, there is one thing that’s growing with her all the way - her crowning glory, that mane of hair which, if it gets any bigger will need to start paying its own council tax!

Cheryl’s do has taken on a life of its own and it’s pure 80s supermodel - think Cindy Crawford mixed with Diana Ross with a sprinkling of drag queen, multiply by 100 and you are still nowhere near CC’s beauteous barnet; backcombed and exaggerated but always polished and groomed.

Whether she is rocking a glorious gown or doing her demure Miss Jean Brodie look, her big hair steals the show.

If you want to emulate the glorious locks of Mrs C you’ll need a whole lot of hair. Extensions add extra length and natural volume and you can also add various shades of colour to create a highlight or lowlight effect. They are a big commitment though and don’t come cheap, but ask in your local salon for details.

If you aren’t ready to go the whole hog, but just want to boost what nature gave you, you'll need some hair thickening products before you attempt this look.

Liberally coat your roots and hair with a volume lift mousse, such as Clynol volume expand volume gel-to-mousse in the fab new Style range, while your hair is still damp, then tip your head upside down and blow with a hair dryer, using a vent brush to work you hair to its opposite side of the head.

After this, take inch-long sections of your hair and spritz with thickening spray like move massive volumising spray also from the Style range and employ our old friends, the Velcro rollers.

Practice makes perfect with this so get yourself in front of a mirror with the new Girls Aloud CD and your hair will be larger than life before you know it!
