Watching the video of the incident where Nottinghamshire Police ‘tasered’ a man resisting arrest yesterday, I was struck by just how simple the situation actually was - the man was resisting arrest, what else were the police expected to do? Great, let’s have a bit more of this tough arm of the law then maybe these yobs will think twice before misbehaving.

However, to the usual suspects – the liberals in the mainstream media and Shami Chakrabarti, director of Liberty – this was not the case. To them it was “pretty disturbing”, even though they were not present at the incident and had no knowledge of the violence that preceded it, resulting in a police officer being hospitalised.

Shami Chakrabarti then proceeded to show just how detached from reality she actually is by stating “we see an assembled crowd saying hang on a minute he didn’t really need that”. Come again? What we actually saw was what you see on any street throughout the country at pub and club chucking out time – a load of totally drunk idiots gathering in a group and looking for trouble. If that incident hadn’t have been happening they’d have gone down the street vandalising people’s cars/property and beating/stabbing anyone who confronted them.

The fact is that Nottinghamshire Police did everything by the book:

• The suspect was told he was going to be tasered and was told to put his hands out and he didn’t, he kept resisting.

• He was punched on the arm 3 times, to gain control of the arm to put it into handcuffs.

The purpose of the taser is temporarily incapacitate an individual in order to control the threat that they pose. This it did, enabling the arrest to be effected.

So the questions that I have to ask Shami Chakrabarti are really very simple. Firstly, “Just how thick are you?” and secondly, “Are you ever going to put the human rights of the law abiding citizens above those of the criminals?”

This was Zero Tolerance at its best, which is just what Britain needs. I salute these guys.
