BLOODY footprints and a palm mark matching a man accused of murdering two French students were found at the crime scene, the Old Bailey heard today (May 5).

Footmarks matching Dano Sonnex were found in the bathroom, on a duvet, cushion and leading from the flat, through its communal hallway and to the block's front door.

A bloody palm mark matching Sonnex was also found on a bed frame at the murder scene.

Sonnex is accused, along with Nigel Farmer, of murdering French students Laurent Bonomo and Gabriel Ferez at a bedsit in Sterling Gardens, New Cross, on the morning of June 29 last year.

Met police forensic consultant Tony Larkin told the court Mr Bonomo could have been attacked at six different parts of the flat.

This included while on the bed and when part of him was lying underneath it.

Mr Larkin said blood, assumed to be from Mr Bonomo, had saturated the mattress and started to flow down the side of the bed.

Blood spots were also “radiating out across the bed”, Mr Larkin said.

Elsewhere blood had spattered parts of the ceiling and wall.

In the bathroom, blood diluted with water was found around the sink and toilet, which Mr Larkin said were “presumably from a person with blood stained hands”.

Earlier today, Kirsty Glendenning and Barbara James both told the court that Sonnex and Farmer visited their friend's house hours before the students' ordeal began.

The witnesses said the pair left together after drinking at the friend's home.

And they also both remembered a black man being there, a person the prosecution claim was Brendan Cummings, who allegedly helped get rid of the murder weapon.

Miss Glendenning told the court Farmer had come back on June 30 with a "burnish mark on the side of his face".

Farmer admits setting fire to the crime scene at around 10pm on June 29 but claims he did so under pressure from Sonnex.

Farmer, aged 33, of no fixed address, and Sonnex, aged 23, of Etta Street, Deptford, deny murder, arson and false imprisonment.

Sonnex admits burglary but Farmer denies the charge.

The trial continues.
