MURDER is the right verdict in the Jimmy Mize case, says the detective who led the investigation.

Detective Chief Inspector Cliff Lyons said after today's verdict: "Jake Fahri is an aggressive young man who throughout his life continually demonstrated an inability to control his emotions and restrain his temper.

"Tragically, he demonstrated this last year, feeling he had been disrespected by Jimmy when in fact no such thing had taken place.

"As we have all come to know Jimmy was the exact opposite of Fahri - a peaceful, courteous person with only the best intentions.

"Despite Jimmy's attempts to defuse the situation Fahri made repeated attempts to attack him, using whatever was at hand to continue the assault until striking the fatal blow."

Mr Lyons added: "I am particularly pleased for Jimmy's family, who have displayed admirable strength and dignity during this whole process, that the jury have delivered a murder verdict.

"Although the weapons chosen by Fahri were not what would usually be associated with such a crime, there is no doubt that Fahri's intention was to cause Jimmy serious injury and therefore murder is the right verdict.

"This was an unusual case and is the first known murder to have involved an ovenware dish as the murder weapon.

"I would like to thank the many witnesses who responded to appeals at the time and who then came to court to give evidence.

"Their evidence greatly assisted by the large amount of witnesses who gave critical evidence to the various episodes of Jake Fahri's behaviour."
