THE 19-YEAR-OLD man accused of murdering Jimmy Mizen has denied having a seven-year grudge against the victim's brother.

Jury members in the trial of Jake Fahri have continued to listen to tape recordings of police speaking to the defendant after his arrest on May 13 last year.

During the interview Detective Constable Jonathan Smee refers to previous incidents involving Fahri and Jimmy's older brother, Harry, now 19.

Speaking about the early stages of the row at the Three Cooks Bakery in Lee on May 10 last year, DC Smee asked: "Is it not the case Jake that you at this time have realised that the smaller person is Harry Mizen, the person that you've held a grudge against for the past seven years?"

Fahri replied: "No, no, no, I haven't had a, that's ridiculous, a grudge for seven years."

DC Smee continued: "In 2001 there was an incident where he reported you."

Fahri replied: "It's correct."

The officer then asked the defendant if he received a harassment warning after assaulting Harry Mizen in 2003.

Fahri agreed they had "a little fight" but that it was "fifty-fifty", adding "it's not a grudge, that's really silly, I didn't even remember him, I didn't recognise his face. It's not a grudge."

DC Smee then asked: "Five years later that's still on your mind. Is that not the case?"

Fahri replied: "That is not the case at all".

Later in the interview when Fahri was asked what went through his mind when he threw a glass dish at Jimmy, he replied: "I wanted him to let go of the sign."

DC Smee went on to ask him how hard he threw the dish. The defendant replied: "Not my hardest, I just threw it."

Towards the end of the conversation, Fahri again broke down in tears when asked whether he accepted that his actions resulted in Jimmy's death.

"Yes" he replied, before adding: "I didn't start trouble. I went in there for a sandwich, that's all."

Jimmy died when his jugular was cut after a glass dish was thrown at him. He had just bought his first ever lottery ticket after celebrating his 16th birthday the previous day.

Fahri, aged 19, of Milborough Crescent, Lee, denies murder and says he was acting in self-defence.

The trial continues.
