A PEDESTRIAN who saw the man accused of murdering Jimmy Mizen running from the bakery where the teenager died says "he had a big grin on his face".

Tara Gaynor was texting her friend while walking near the Three Cooks Bakery in Lee on May 10 last year.

She then claims to have seen Jimmy's brother, Tommy, chasing Jake Fahri along Burnt Ash Hill and says the defendant was smiling.

Speaking during the murder trial at the Old Bailey, she said: "When he ran past me he had a big grin on his face.

"I saw Tommy running after him halfway up the road but then he turned back."

She added: "It is something I remember distinctly. I was so shocked that after what had happened he was smiling. It's disturbing."

The court had previously heard from a driver who said he watched Fahri "going mad" hitting the front door with a sign.

Raymond Webber, who was stuck in traffic outside the bakery at the time of the incident, said the defendant was "very angry" and "bouncing all over the place".

He said Fahri was holding an advertising board and "going mad with it - hitting the door."

Mr Webber added: "He wanted to just get inside from what I could see. Eventually he opened the door and got in after kicking the door and smashing the glass."

Mr Webber then tried to follow the defendant in his car but eventually lost view of him.

Jurors also heard from van driver John Fogarty who said Jimmy "stood with his hands by his sides" despite being hit with a plastic drink bottle.

Mr Fogarty, who was also stuck in traffic at the time of the row, turned to look at the bakery after hearing shouting.

He says Fahri was standing very close to "the tall guy" and shouting and swearing at him.

When asked by the prosecution if the tall boy had reacted in any way, he said: "The tall guy was just standing there with his hands by his sides. He was leaning back and a bit awkward looking."

Jimmy Mizen died when his jugular was cut after a glass dish was thrown at him. He had just bought his first ever lottery ticket after celebrating his 16th birthday the previous day.

Fahri, aged 19, of Milborough Crescent, Lee, denies murder and says he was acting in self-defence.

The trial continues.
