I quickly discovered I really was kidding myself to think that £15 would be enough just to survive a week.

In the very first few days I ended up needing a one-off train ticket costing £45 to go visit my grandparents.

I now owe them the money for that which I will be paying back over the next few weeks.

But on what I currently have that would be impossible.

I had a look at my outgoings to see if I could cut back there and free up some more cash.

I've changed my phone contract from £30 to £10 a month and I've changed from a zones 1 to 5 travelcard on my Oyster card to a weekly train pass for one route- my home to the office, saving £22.

My traveling habits are going to be severly hampered by changing travel card- I won't be going anywhere by train other than work.

But I am very pleased with my new phone contract.

I still have plenty of free texts and minutes on this new deal so that was a good saving that I wouldn't have thought of if it wasn't for this challenge.

Let's see what the next week holds as I now have a whopping £40 a week, part of which will be returned to my gran.
