A FRIEND of Rob Knox who disarmed a knife man launched an angry outburst in court today.

Tarik Ozresberoglu was being asked by defence lawyer Ian Bourne whether it was the defendant Karl Bishop who had been attacked outside the Metro Bar on May 24, rather than him attacking others.

Mr Ozresberoglu began pointing at Bishop: "He did everything. Everyone that got stabbed he did."

He told Mr Bourne: "I don't know how you can defend a criminal like that.

"I'd rather be a dustman, a man's job, than do what you do."

Mr Ozresberoglu then pointed to the defendant again and yelled: "Look at him there laughing.

"Clown - absolute clown."

Judge Justice Bean told the witness to calm down otherwise he would be taken to the cells.

After giving evidence the witness left court shaking his head.

Mr Knox died from his wounds and five other people were injured following a melee outside the bar.

Earlier in his evidence today (Feb 18), the Old Bailey was told by Mr Ozresberoglu how an unarmed Mr Knox had taken Bishop on.

He said: "He (Mr Knox) ran over there like a man with nothing in his hands - not with knives."

During evidence Mr Ozresberoglu admitted chasing a friend of Bishop through Sidcup station and across the railway line after a fight broke out earlier that evening.

Shown CCTV photos of the station, he identified Tom Hopkins as being involved in the chase. This was something Mr Hopkins had denied earlier in the trial.

Mr Ozresberoglu admitted in court lying to police after Bishop left the scene following the first fight, telling them the defendant was "tooled up" so they would follow him.

During the later stand-off outside the Metro Bar, he said Mr Knox's brother Jamie had warned him the man was armed but Mr Knox had broken free of Mr Ozresberoglu, who was trying to restrain him.

The witness said Mr Knox had attempted a rugby tackle on Bishop before he was stabbed around four times.

Mr Ozresberoglu also described seeing Mr Knox's friend Nicky Lee Jones and another man get stabbed.

He told the court he then knocked Bishop into the flowerbeds and held down his right hand which held a knife.

But Mr Ozresberoglu said the defendant used his free hand to stab Tom Hopkins, who was trying to help pin him down.

Mr Ozresberoglu said that as Bishop was led to a policeman he had blood coming out his mouth and he "was spitting blood at people."

Bishop, aged 21, of Beaver Lodge, Carlton Road, Sidcup, denies murder and five counts of wounding with intent to cause grevious bodily harm.

The trial continues.
