You know those foods that just taste like, smell like, feel like and remind you of holiday?!

It’s hard for that not to be the case when you’re eating Mediterranean food, but it’s got to be done right to properly hit the spot.

42 Holborn located on Kingsway is a newly opened Mediterranean fine dining spot, which gorgeous and classy interior and really good food.

I went on a Thursday night with my friend for some after work food, and it’s in a really convenient spot with an extensive menu to ensure there is something for everyone.

At the moment the entrance is covered in festive décor and there’s a featuring Christmas tree inside which also boosts the festive mood.

The main feature of the restaurant is a big bar, which spans across the length of the main dining room, but there are also private dining areas as well.

All the waiters and waitresses were extremely friendly and helpful, and they gave recommendations to help us choose what food to have from the menu.

The cocktail list is the hardest to choose from, and I went for a pink gin, grapefruit, apple and blood orange spritz which was suitably sweet and tangy at the same time, while my friend had a pink gin and lemonade.

To start with I went for the tuna tartare which I struggle to resist when its on any menu, and my friend ordered the prawns.

The restaurant so kindly brought her out another type of prawns to try as well – so she had an absolute overload of different ones to start, and she wasn’t complaining.

I don’t eat prawns but the presentation of both of her dishes was lovely, and she thoroughly enjoyed them.

My tuna tartare portion was big, which I appreciate, as some places don’t always serve generously with this dish. It was really fresh and had cucumber, avocado and red onion in too for extra flavour.

We shared some pita bread which had been chargrilled, and I definitely don’t think I can eat pita bread that isn’t chargrilled again. It was so flavourful and a nice warm side with my cold starter.

For mains I had the seabass and the restaurant was really accommodating as I chose to have it without the salsa, and my friend had the steak.

She asked for it rare and it came exactly as requested, and my seabass was also chargrilled which I thought was delicious.

It had that real char flavour which I think gave me a holiday-feel, and it made the moist fish really tasty.

We both had chips – mine plain and my friends’ with parmesan and truffle, and we both absolutely devoured these too.

You’d think by that point we’d have been full but for two girls both with a sweet tooth it’s really hard to resist.

My friend had the Turkish coffee crème brulee, and I had the Spanish flan. I don’t think I’ve ever had a flan before, but that definitely won’t be my last one.

Both were creamy, sweet, not too sickly, and finished off the meal perfectly.
