As the country woke up on Tuesday, we heard worrying news of a major incident in Nottingham. 

It was later confirmed that one of the three victims of a brutal attack was a bright hockey player from London, who studying at the University of Nottingham. 

More worrying news came from Wembley, after police were called to a fatal stabbing in a house at around 10am. 

Then in the afternoon an awful day was rounded off when news of a stabbing in Thornton Heath, Croydon, broke. 

The victim in that stabbing died in hospital hours later. 

Talented hockey player killed in Nottingham attack

Grace Kumar, 19, a University of Nottingham student from London was named as one of the three victims of an attack in Nottingham. 

Grace was making her name as a hockey star by playing at London’s Southgate Hockey team and having played for the Old Loughtonians in Chigwell and England U18. 

Another student, 19-year-old Barnaby Webber, and a man in his 50s were also killed in the same attack in the early hours of Tuesday (June 13). 

The two students were stabbed in Ilkeston Road at around 4am then the body of the man in his 50s was found a bit further away with stab wounds in Magdala Road. 

Police have said it is believed the attacker then stole the older man’s van before driving it at pedestrians in Milton Street. 

Three people were injured in the van attack, with one in a critical condition in hospital and two suffering minor injuries. 

A 31-year-old man has been detained. 

Governing body England Hockey paid their respects to the news of Grace’s death, describing her as a “popular member” of the England under-16 and under018 squads. 

The message read: “Our thoughts are with Grace’s family, friends, teammates and the whole hockey community at this time.” 

Woman killed in Wembley double stabbing

A 27-year-old woman died in a residential property on Neeld Crescent, Wembley, after she was stabbed on Tuesday. 

Police rushed to the scene at around 10am. 

A second woman, 28, was taken to hospital with stab wounds. Her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening. 

Two people, a 24-year-old man and 23-year-old woman, were arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder. 

A third person, a 23-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of murder in Harrow later in the evening. 

Det Ch Insp Linda Bradley, from the Met's Specialist Crime Command, said: "I recognise the significant concern this incident has caused in the community and I would like to reassure the public that a dedicated team of detectives are working to establish what happened. 

"Local officers will remain in the area over the coming days to respond to any concerns." 

Man stabbed to death in Croydon 

Later on Tuesday, at around 4.15pm, officers patrolling in Thornton Heath were made aware of a man who was injured at the junction of Melfort Road and Sandfield Road.   

The 20-year-old man had stab injuries and officers performed CPR before he was rushed to hospital. 

Sadly he died in hospital in the early hours of Wednesday (June 14). His next of kin have been informed. 

No arrests have been made so far but a murder investigation has been launched.
