Covent Garden is brimming with incredible spots to eat at and sometimes it can be difficult to choose just one.

However, we visited a gem at the heart of the area that you may never have noticed before for some amazing Hawaiian inspired street food.

El Ta’koy can be found at 3 Henrietta Street and is tucked away in the basement of the building.

After making your way down the staircase, you step through the door and into the vibrant, leafy restaurant.

The décor was stunning, with leaves, vines and flowers hanging from the ceiling and the walls and ceiling painted entirely green you truly feel like you have been transported out of London.

It’s a small restaurant with only a few tables, making it perfect for an intimate date night.

We were assured by our waitress that the taco portions were very filling and that the best way to navigate the menu was to try a few small plates and then move on to the tacos later.

So, my partner and I shared the Hawaiian fried chicken popcorn and the tuna and caviar taquitos.

I have to admit, it was some of the best fried chicken that I have ever tasted.

The hearty pieces of chicken were crunchy and juicy and covered in a sweet and spicy Filipino glaze that I now never want to eat my chicken without.

We then moved on to the main event and ordered two plates of tacos that we shared.

The chicken and lamb tacos caught our eye, but the vegetarian options were very tempting – especially the el vegetarian which was made up of roasted mushrooms, vegan kimchi and sweet Filipino BBQ.

The tacos came with lime cream, coriander and pickled red cabbage and were absolutely delicious.

The meat was soft and tender but the crunch from the cabbage and the creaminess from the lime came together to make the perfect taco.

To wash down the meal, I went for a glass of their Spanish rose wine and my partner chose the zingiber lotus cocktail which they made alcohol-free at his request.

The atmosphere at El Ta’koy is very unique, being situated down the staircase makes the restaurant feel very cool and exclusive.

Considering it is based slap bang at the heart of Covent Garden, I think it’s priced very fairly for the quality of food you get to chow down on.

I would 100% recommend El Ta’koy to anyone out and about in Covent Garden, spoiled for choice and not knowing where to go for an amazing dinner.
