NEWS Shopper is launching a retro section in our newspapers and online - and we want you to be the stars of it.

Every week we will pick at random a different year to focus on in the paper, going as far back as 1965 - the year News Shopper started.

We will take you on a nostalgic trip back in time for a light-hearted look at memorable events, people, fashion crazes and more from each year.

Delving into our news archives, 'I Remember ...' will give you a snapshot of what was happening locally at the time.

And we will recap some of the things going on in the wider world of news, sport and entertainment.

You can get involved by sharing your photos and recollections.

First up is 1976 - a year of highs and lows. Do you remember the industrial unrest and raging inflation, the long hot summer which led to water rationing, Abba at their peak, the first Muppet Show, the start of the punk era?

We would love to see your favourite photos from that year - make people laugh at your hairdo or cringe at the clothes you were wearing. Or send pictures of friends and family or local places if you are embarrassed by your own style from the time!

We want to hear your memories too so tell us what your personal highlights of the year were - were you leaving school, buying your first car or getting married? Also, what news stories or key events stick in your mind?

An I Remember 1976' page will appear in the paper soon.

You can also start sending photos and recollections of other years from between 1965 and 1990 for future weeks.

Everything submitted will be published on News Shopper's site where interactive sections for the 60s, 70s and 80s will be created.

Let's celebrate the happy days from those three great decades as well as relive some of those moments in time which are best consigned to history.

Send photos or memories by post to Simon Bull, News Shopper, Mega House, Crest View Drive, Petts Wood, Kent, BR5 1BT - all pictures will be returned.
