A man who stole £850 from someone else's account at a Dartford bank has been slapped with a suspended prison sentence.

Steven James Smith denied using another person's card at the business in Lowfield Street on two occasions in 2014 - on March 10, and between March 17 and 25.

However magistrates found the 42-year-old, who is from Luton Road in Chatham, guilty of two counts of fraud.

Smith was found to have taken £200 in the first theft, and £650 in the second.

He was sentenced to 18 weeks in prison, suspended for a year, at Medway Magistrate's Court on April 27.

Magistrates also gave Smith a 60-day curfew, to remain at home between 7pm and 6am daily until June 24.

He must pay £650 compensation, £620 costs and an £80 victim surcharge.

Meanwhile a man from Swansombe, who caused £2,279 worth of damage to a Land Rover Defender, has been ordered to carry out 150 hours worth of unpaid work.

Darren Paul Wheeler, of Eglington Road, pleaded guilty to criminal damage for the act - which was carried out between January 18 and 19 in Hillside Drive.

The 42-year-old must also pay £85 court costs and a £60 victim surcharge.
