Members of the public have been commended for their bravery - including helping foil an armed bank robber in Petts Wood.

Bromley’s Borough Commander, Chief Superintendent Chris Hafford, praised 20 police officers and six ordinary people for their extraordinary actions.

Mayor Councillor Kim Botting, the Met’s longest serving female officer, was also on hand to present the awards at a ceremony in The Warren MPS Sport Club in Coney Hall last Thursday (October 1).

MORE TOP STORIES On New Year’s Eve last year, 35-year-old Marlon Noble raided Lloyds Bank, in Station Square, armed with a coat hanger made to look like a gun.

Noble, who was sentenced to 11 years behind bars in June for a string of offences, nearly got away with £1,964 in cash.

Five members of the public - Steven Johnstone, Fred Agegaye, Tony Rush and two others - chased and tackled the crook before police arrived.

Along with Police Sergeant Paul Law, Police Constable Daniel Stevens, PC Keith Oakins, PC Jack Beadle-Daly and Special Police Constable Amanda Madden, they were commended for their "great courage".

Also recognised at the ceremony was PS Rob Goodwin, for giving first aid to a victim of a serious assault at Goals Soccer Centre, in Elmers End Road Beckenham, until paramedics arrived last September.

PCs Brian Doamekpor and Rachel Kerr were commended for saving a woman’s life by stemming blood loss and resuscitating her on New Year’s Day.

Following a violent assault outside the Bridge Bar, along the High Street in Beckenham, PC Marc Potter and PC Claire Derbyshire were praised for protecting the victim and detaining the suspects in March.

During the fire strike in November 2014, PC Rebecca Perkins was praised for her "courage and selfless devotion to duty" for evacuating houses after a serious car fire, despite being the only officer on the scene.

PC Jessica Hallybone was acknowledged for her bravery at another house fire along Morston Gardens, Mottingham, in 2013.

Detective Constables Ian Barnard, Karen Rhodes and trainee DC Mark Knox were praised for their work leading to the jailing of three men involved in a violent robbery.

Zahid Sait, Junior Miller and Kyio Scarlett-Hudson, then 42, 37 and 20, were jailed for a total of 39 years in July.

They tied up an elderly couple in their home along Chislehurst Road, before assaulting them and stealing £300,000 pounds worth of goods.

Another member of the public recognised was Affinity Sutton’s neighbourhood housing, Samantha Littley, and PC Daniel Stevens received awards for reducing anti-social behaviour.

Borough Commander Chris Hafford told recipients: "We have heard about armed incidents, superb investigations, great community service and saving lives and that’s why we should all feel the same shared sense of pride in what you have achieved."
