Officers are staging an appeal at the scene of a murder in Brockley last Saturday, after yobs threw a lump of concrete through a car windscreen causing the crash which killed 17-year-old Nassem Galleze.

Nassem was in the mint green Vauxhall Corsa when it smashed into a lamppost at speed as it travelled towards Loampit Vale shortly after 3pm.

Despite paramedics’ best efforts the Grove Park teenager died in hospital.

Police say that whilst on the Turnham Estate, the car which Nassem and his two friends were in, came under attack.

As the car left the estate a concrete block was thrown at it, smashing the windscreen and causing the car to collide with the lamppost.

The suspects ran off and several passers-by rushed to Nassem's aid before paramedics arrived.

Officers who will be appealing at the scene throughout the day are keen to speak with anyone who has not yet come forward who either witnessed the incident or has information that could assist their investigation.

DCI McHugh said: "Firstly I would like to hear from anyone who saw the mint green Vauxhall Corsa on the Turnham Estate prior to the collision.

"Several people rushed to help Nassem and there are some who have yet to speak with police. “We know the incident was also witnessed by other passers-by and residents in the area and again, we would encourage anyone who saw anything or has any information to come forward. ! 

Nassem’s father Hakim, said: "I am numb with pain. Every time my phone rings or there's a knock at the door, I pray it is Nassem. Our beloved Nassem's life has been brutally ended and my family are devastated.

"People will have seen what happened and they will have heard things; you might be thinking do I talk to the police? Take a look at the car where my son died and you know there's only one thing to do for Nassem and our family. Please assist the police."

Nassem Galleze, 17, is the third teenager murdered in Lewisham in the past six months.

Four men [A, aged 20; B, aged 21; C, aged 23ys; D, aged 19ys] were arrested on Sunday, 27 September, in connection with the investigation. They have since been bailed pending further enquiries.

On Tuesday, 29 September, a further two men aged 19 [E] and 22 [F] were arrested.

[E] was released on police bail pending further enquiries; [F] has subsequently been charged with violent disorder.
