Old and young alike enjoyed the second annual ‘Motting Hill Carnival’.
Forget the crowds in central London; Mottingham residents added a splash of colour to the streets with their second twist on the world famous event.
Organised by group Mottingham Residents for Change (MR4C), MP Bob Neill officially opened the event on Sunday (August 30).
Dancers in bright costumes joined a parade through the streets along Court Farm Road and Beaconsfield Road.
MORE TOP STORIES Children in fancy dress costumes followed the soca music on the lead truck, courtesy of Ace Tree Care, and African drummers brought up the rear of the parade.
The carnival site, on Geffery’s Green in Nunnington Close, saw a selection of food and drink stalls as well as children’s entertainment.
An engine from the London Fire Brigade joined celebrations while dancers and performers took to the stage.
MR4C group founder, Lorraine Gibson, said: “Everybody has given a helping hand with the costumes and organisation, and it has helped to put MR4C and Geffery’s Hall on the map as a community venture.
“We are already planning for next year, perhaps to reach a wider audience, and as one visitor said, ‘Who needs Notting Hill when WE have Motting Hill’.”
