A Deptford 19-year-old who stabbed a teenager at a Brixton bar, leaving him in hospital for eight days, has been jailed.

Alex Suarez-Aguirre, of Abinger Grove, attacked the 17-year old during a fight at the El Penol Bar on November 16 2013.

His victim managed to make his own way to King's College Hospital where doctors found a stab wound to his torso.

Police say the venue did not call them after the stabbing, denying any knowledge of the attack.

The victim remained in hospital for eight days, with injuries to his kidney and spleen.

At the Old Bailey on July 3, Suarez-Aguirre was sentenced to six years in prison after being found guilty of grievous bodily harm with intent.

Detective Inspector Tracey Miller from Lambeth CID said: "This was an extremely violent incident in which the victim suffered serious injuries.

"The length of the sentence reflects the gravity of the offence and will hopefully deter others who are considering carrying or using knives."

The bar has since been closed down.
