A motorcyclist was “thrown 15 metres into the air” after colliding with a car in St Mary Cray, witnesses say.

Main Road was closed after a Yamaha bike and black Ford Focus crashed at the junction with Station Road at around 6.30pm on Tuesday (April 21).

The 32-year-old motorcyclist suffered leg and back injuries.

A 21-month-old baby boy in the Ford Focus sustained bruising to his cheek and the driver, his father, had bruising to his ribs.

Passing motorists stopped to help and families living in houses nearby provided cushions and blankets until emergency services arrived.

Eyewitness Andy Fordham said the bike hit the passenger door of the Ford Focus, which was turning right as the bike was overtaking.

The 42-year-old videographer, of Brentwood Way, said: “I was driving down the road - standard speed.

“A motorbike overtook me. There were two bikes. One went past me and the other one looked like he was trying to catch the other one up.

“I could see a black car in the distance. The road is quite narrow.

“The second motorbike zoomed past me and smashed straight into the side of the black car.

“He knew he was going to hit. His back wheels left the ground. He did a wheelie on his front wheel.

“I just saw a cloud of blue and white pieces.

“The motorcyclist was thrown 15 metres into the air.”
