Youngsters at an Orpington school got the practice their own acceptance speeches while holding a real Oscar and Bafta.

Former Gray's Farm Primary Academy pupil Simon Egan returned to his old school last Monday (March 2) to show off some very rare awards.

Mr Egan, who left the school in 1978, dazzled children and teachers alike with the highly coveted Oscar and Bafta won for their film The King's Speech.

He returned to deliver a rousing assembly with years five and six, who each got a chance to hold the golden goods.

Year five teacher Andrea Taylor said: "I've never held one before. I think they're made of real gold; the Bafta was heavier than the Oscar.

"The way he related The King's Speech to overcoming difficulty and obstacles was really motivational for them.

"The children really enjoyed it and were really engaged."
