A teenager has been arrested in New Cross after police found him carrying a loaded gun.

Acting on intelligence, officers from the Met's Trident team and armed officers stopped the 17-year-old boy in Pomeroy Street at 5.30pm yesterday (February 26).

When challenged by police, he tried to escape but was stopped almost straight away.

Officers found the youth was carrying a loaded Walther .765 handgun.

He has been arrested for possession of a firearm and ammunition and is currently in custody at a south London police station.
