A girl, believed to be 17, has been rushed to hospital after she was hit by a silver Mercedes car in Plumstead this morning.

The incident happened shortly before 8am in Wickham Lane near Woodbrook Road.

Neighbours are understood to have called an ambulance and stayed with the teenager, who suffered head injuries, until paramedics arrived.

A spokeswoman for the London Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 7.45am to reports of a road traffic collision in Wickham Lane.

"We sent two ambulance crews to the scene.

"We treated a girl, reported to be aged 17, for head injuries.

"She was taken to King's College Hospital as a priority."

A spokesman for Greenwich police said: "The male driver of the silver Mercedes stopped at the scene.

"He has not been arrested."

Wickham Lane was blocked in both directions and there was a police cordon at the junction with Woodbrook Road.
